Animals & Freaks

6/02/12

In my recent search for vintage plant images, I came across this wonderful resource. Enormous collection of all kind of plants, animals, human parts and other abnormalities one might look for throughout the week. Great thing about it is that it’s mostly free of charge, and available for non-commercial use. Thanks Lukas Large!

Genetic portraits

If you have a brother or sister (especially from the same parents) probably you have heard the phrase “you wouldn’t even be able to deny you’re siblings!” I for one never agreed with these accusations concerning me and my brother, but perhaps I should reevaluate my standpoint after seeing Ulric Collett’s pictures…
To investigate the subject he has put together a photographic project, involving his whole family (and some other people)…

Impress.js and Prezi

16/01/12

Have you ever felt during a presentation that it is missing that touch of cool that would bring it out of that deep dense forrest of boring slider action?

Perhaps you have heard of a little website called Prezi.com (a Hungarian start-up from 2009), where  you can animate your presentation in all directions and zoom in and out as you please. Quite a useful tool to pump some fun into an otherwise boring content.

And now you also have Impress.js, a presentation framework based on the power of CSS3 transforms and transitions in modern browsers and inspired by the idea behind Prezi. Though this is for the more technologically literate…

The main difference between Impress.js and Prezi is that you can also animate in 3D.

Now there really is no excuse for not having a visually interesting presentation ;)

Jen Stark definitely has incredible patience. I can’t even begin to imagine all the time it takes to cut out all those intricate layers… If you feel like you need to look at something beautifully colorful, go check out her site!

A game for designers

31/10/11

Oh Kerning!

The world would be magical if letters could guess, by themselves, how distant (or how close) from their “mates” they should be. Of course the world is what it is, letters don’t have brains and designers have to control these relationships.

At least now we can have some fun while practicing it!

Here’s a kerning game:
