Sonic notify

31/08/12

Now, when I sometimes read of the technologies people imagined in old science fiction I think they must have been diviners. Or perhaps it's the modern scientist that looks to the old literature for inspiration. In any case Sonic Notify is one of those technologies that might seem familiar from such oldies - it allows messages to be sent to your smartphone at specific times or locations. This means that stores can send you a notification about a certain product just as you are interacting with it. Or if you're at a concert they can send exclusive content to your phone at any precise moment, enhancing your experience. And these are just a couple of examples of the possibilities this technology holds. Any brand that has a mobile app can install Sonic's software development kit (or SDK as the techie kids like to call it). The updated app then "hears" the sonic sound emitted through any loudspeaker (TV or otherwise) and a notification is activated. For now it's main uses are in marketing, but who knows what other interesting things people can come up with... For a more detailed description and demos go to the official website. Here is where I read about this.

Bureaucracy

24/08/12

I look at these pictures and think, man, I am so lucky to have my trusty modern computer... Just looking at those stacks (or rather piles) of old paper, tied together, with ruffled edges makes me nervous! I seriously wonder what information they contain, but more importantly how they find anything!? You can check out Jan Banning's Bureaucracy project/book here and the rest of his work here.

Big appetites

Small people climbing and manipulating big food. Beautiful images with clever inscriptions (which you can only see on his website - the inscriptions I mean). What more could you want?! Marvel at Christopher Boffoli's mini-universe here!

Keeploop

Remember how a couple of weeks ago I said microscopes are awesome and every kid should grow up with one? Well, now you can turn your mobile device into a microscope with the help of KeepLoop. It's a "thin, magnetic microscope module" you can attach to you mobile phone or tablet/pad and voilà, you are instantly transported back into a futuristic childhood. Go out into the world and discover unseen dimensions! But this little device isn't just for the child-at-heart, it also has professional uses: in the printing industry for checking quality or brand protection. Though the most important aspect of it (for me) is the FUN! http://www.keeploop.com/en/home/

Please be seated!

Shopping socially

3/08/12

Leo Burnett conducted a study recently on how people shop online/socially. This information is most valuable to brands to identify their types of clients, but it is also very interesting for the common online shopper. According to this article resuming the study, there are 6 types of social shoppers with 8 social shopper needs. Which one are you?
